Geographical location

Thawalama division is situated in the north part of Galle district. It is in the north western and south eastern directions. It is called as “ Hinidumpaththu south” This division is between northern longitude 6.23 and 6.24 and eastern latitude 80.17 and 80.26. The Northern boundary is Kaluthara district and form is Neluwa secretariat division and form south western and southern directions Matara district division and directions Nagoda secretariat division and form western boundary it is the Niyagama Secretariat Division.The extend of this division is 18230 hectares and it is the largest division. Out of the total land area of the district is 11%.

History of Thawalama Divisional Secretariat

Hinidumpaththuwa Divisional Revenue Office was established between thawalama & Batahena in 1942. The First Divisional revenue officer was Mr. M.A. Jayaneththi at the same venture the divisional Secretariat was established. the staff was included six Clark and the initial Assistant Government Agent was Mr. Piyadasa Liyanarachchi.

In 1981 there were 12 G.S. Divisions

In 1987 there were 18 G.S. Divisions

In 1990 there were 36 G.S. Divisions in this area.

On October 14, 1997, a new two-story building was replaced by the Old Building. At that time, the Divisional Secretary was Mr. M.K. Wijaya Wickramaratne
